Elon Musk: Top NBCUniversal executive joins Twitter

NBC News

As Elon Musk continues to reshuffle the leadership of the social media platform, Twitter has hired senior NBCUniversal executive Joe Benarroch.

On Monday, Mr. Benarroch assumes the position and will concentrate on business operations.

It happens less than a month after Twitter's new CEO, Linda Yaccarino, was announced as NBCUniversal's head of advertising.

She will fill the position that Mr. Musk currently holds, but he will continue to play a significant role in the business.

Mr. Benarroch has already changed his LinkedIn profile to reflect his new location as the New York office of Twitter.

I am excited to bring my experience to Twitter and to work with the entire team to jointly build Twitter 2.0, he added in a post about his decision. ".

From one bird to the next, welcome to the flock, @benarroch_joe, Ms. Yaccarino wrote on Twitter. ".

Mr. Benarroch's last position at NBCUniversal was executive vice president for communications, advertising, and partnerships. He had previously worked for Facebook, a major social media platform.

Late last week, rumors of the resignation of Twitter's second head of trust and safety, who worked for owner Elon Musk, surfaced.

In November 2022, a month after Elon Musk took control of the business, Ella Irwin filled Yoel Roth's vacant position.

The task of content moderation, which has received attention since Mr. Musk took control of the company, is given to the head of trust and safety.

Uncertainty surrounds Ms. Irwin's resignation's motivation. It did so, though, a day after Mr. Musk criticized a Twitter content moderation choice in public.

Since spending $44 billion (£35 point 4 billion) to acquire Twitter, Mr. Musk has faced pressure to find a new CEO and turn his attention back to his other companies, such as electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla and rocket company SpaceX.

Last month, Mr. Musk appointed Ms. Yaccarino as Twitter's new CEO.

He promised that she would begin in six weeks and supervise business operations at the platform, which has had trouble turning a profit.

As executive chairman and chief technology officer, Mr. Musk said he would continue to be involved in the platform.
