An anniversary performance by a 13-year-old Ukrainian pianist

Performing in Liverpool to commemorate the first anniversary of the Russian invasion was a 13-year-old pianist who fled Ukraine when the war started.

After the city of Kharkiv was bombed in February of last year, Alisa and her mother moved out and are now living in Wirral.

In traditional attire, she performed her nation's anthem at Liverpool ONE before a moment of silence at 11:00 GMT.

The teen declared that she "will never forget" it.

Before moving to stay with a host family in Wirral, she first fled her home and used her music to cheer up people in refugee camps in Poland and Ukraine.

She previously performed at official gatherings in Ukraine. .

According to Donna Howitt of Liverpool ONE, inviting Alisa to perform was a respectful way to acknowledge her talent and show support for the Ukrainian community on this day.

"I had the honor of being able to visit Alisa and hear her perform, and I was totally moved – she is an incredibly talented young lady and has clearly done so much to support her friends and indeed her community too. ".

She added that Alisa and her mother are currently adjusting to their new life in Wirral.
