Breaking

540 jobs could be at risk as a result of a South Wales plant closure by an American medical manufacturing company.

At its Bridgend facility, Zimmer Biomet declared it would "cease manufacturing" and start talking to the workforce.

The business, which makes hip and knee replacements, once employed more than 800 people.

It stated that discussions with employees and unions would take place to "evaluate alternatives and how to limit the loss of jobs.".

After a staff meeting on Thursday at 11:30 BST, hundreds of employees were seen leaving the facility.

One man leaving the factory with a white envelope in his hand said, "We're not allowed to talk to you, but you can see on our faces it's not good news.
