A Huddersfield-based mental health charity has stated that it will have to close if it cannot obtain additional funding.
A drop-in location and gathering place for men dealing with mental health issues, Platform 1 opened in renovated railroad cars in 2019.
Since then, it has increased its offerings and claimed to have seen a sharp increase in the number of clients.
Closure was a "very strong possibility," according to Gez Walsh, the charity's chief executive.
He claimed that a number of issues had arisen, such as broken pipes and frequent vandalism.
Despite an increase in demand for its services, Mr. Welsh claimed that the charity had reduced costs by having some employees continue as volunteers.
There is a very good chance that we may have to shut down, he said.
"We work with individuals who have a variety of mental health issues; unfortunately, the funding has recently dried up.
"We have considered our options for continuing voluntarily, but doing so would be extremely challenging because we wouldn't have a counseling officer and no place to conduct the counseling. ".
Since the pandemic and the cost of living crisis, according to Bridget Fahy, the charity's lead for crisis support and counseling, the number of people seeking their services has "escalated.".
She claimed that despite having always emphasized "easy, quick access," the charity now had an eight-month waiting list.
We were forced to halt referrals, Ms. Fahy said.
The nonprofit organization is looking into funding possibilities and is counting on community support to enable it to carry out its mission.
