Virginia Crosbie, a member of Congress from the Conservative Party, apologizes for the lockdown

Virginia Crosbie

A Conservative MP issued an apology for going to a gathering in the House of Commons while Covid restrictions were in effect.

According to the Guido Fawkes website, Virginia Crosbie, an MP for Ynys Mon, was a co-host of a cocktail party on December 8, 2020.

The event was referred to on the website as "joint birthday drinks" in a WhatsApp message from Baroness Jenkin.

Ms. Crosbie acknowledged that the event took place but insisted that she had not distributed any invitations.

She released a statement saying, "Regarding reports of an event held on December 8, 2020, I would like to set forth the facts.".

"I didn't send the invitation to this event out myself. I was only there for a brief period of time, I didn't drink, and I didn't celebrate my birthday. After that, I quickly returned home to be with my family.

"I sincerely apologize for making the mistake of attending the event in the first place. ".

When Boris Johnson criticized the Privileges Committee before receiving its damning report into his behavior and charged Sir Bernard Jenkin with "monstrous hypocrisy" for allegedly attending the event with his wife, the event gained attention.

Former parliamentary private secretary to Matt Hancock, who was the former health secretary, is Ms. Crosbie.
