A train accident in India's eastern Odisha state has resulted in more than 230 fatalities and 900 injuries.

In what is being called the nation's worst train accident this century, the death toll is expected to rise. It is thought that three trains were involved in the collision.

In order to reach those who are trapped inside, rescuers are sifting through debris and cutting through the metal exterior of train compartments with electric cutters.

Along with the police and the national disaster response force, more than 200 ambulances and 100 doctors have also been sent to the scene.
