Robert Mugabe, the former president of Zimbabwe, has a son who has been detained on suspicion of causing damage to property at a Harare party.
Robert Mugabe junior, who is estimated to be 31 years old, is charged with damaging vehicles and other property over the weekend.
Police tweeted that he was taken into custody after his friend Sindiso Nkatazo, who is also 31 years old, filed a complaint.
The former president's second child with his widow, Grace, Mr. Mugabe Junior, has not yet made any comments.
The damaged property, according to the police, was worth $12,000 (£10,000).
Using a facemask and a suit, Mr. Mugabe junior was seen in a video posted by the news outlet ZimLive walking toward Harare Magistrates' Court while being followed by a crowd and having people take pictures of him from the sidelines.
Robert Mugabe, the former president, passed away in 2019 at the age of 95, two years after being forced to leave office after serving for 37 years.
If his father had still been in office, analysts say it is highly unlikely that his son would have been detained.
Emmerson Mnangagwa, who served as Mr. Mugabe's right-hand man, took over.
After they accused him of betraying Zimbabwe's longtime leader, the Mugabe family's relations with him were tense.
Grace, his widow, had aspirations to succeed her husband, but Mr. Mnangagwa's supporters prevented her from doing so.
President Mnangagwa and Mr. Mugabe Jr. have since made amends, and Mr. Mugabe Jr. attended a rally last year where he was formally welcomed back into the ruling Zanu-PF party.
